John Ahkivgak, 22, of Barrow has been charged with first-degree domestic violence assault and two counts of fourth-degree assault on a police officer.
Ahkivgak was arrested early on Tuesday morning, Jan. 8, when officers with the North Slope Borough Police Department responded to a report of a domestic violence dispute.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Ahkivgak assaulted a 32-year-old woman in the residence.
The woman was transported by emergency medical services to the Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries and was then transferred by emergency airlift to the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage for further treatment.
Alcohol played a role in this incident, according to the police.
