The Barrow Whalers made an appearance in the first Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches poll last week. The BHS boys' and girls' teams were both ranked among the top five squads in their respective divisions.

The Barrow boys, who are coming off a clutch win over Bethel Regional High School on Saturday, were ranked fifth in the Class 3A poll. The Whalers enter this weekend's home games with Colony at 6-10 for the year.

The Barrow girls were ranked third in the girls' 3A poll. Anchorage Christian and Sitka finished first and second, respectively.

Barrow wasn't the only area team receiving high praise from the pollsters. Selawik and Point Hope checked in at No. 4 and No. 5 in the boys' Class 2A rankings. Noorvik was second in the boys' 1A poll.
