Deadline approaches for subsistence council seats

The deadline to apply for an open seat on the Northwest Arctic Subsistence Regional Advisory Council is fast approaching. Interested candidates must have their names in by the end of this week.

Board members must reside within the region and have a working knowledge and understanding of subsistence concerns, issues and resources for the area.

The council meets at least two times every year and is responsible for providing background information, advice and suggestions to the Federal Subsistence Board on management issues and topics that involve the region.

Not all of the seats are open this term. The council is specifically seeking nominees from Ambler, Kiana, Kivalina, Kobuk, Selawik, Shungnak and Noorvik, it noted in an announcement.

People who are interested may apply themselves. They may also nominate someone else for an open seat, so long as that person agrees to run.

The deadline for applications is Friday, Feb. 2. Any questions may be directed to Carl Johnson at 907-786-3676.

Applications are available online at https://www.doi.gov/sites/doi.gov/files/uploads/rac_nomination_application_2018_0.pdf.
