Kelli Bishop scored 10 points and the Homer Lady Mariners' junior varsity squad turned in a smothering defensive effort on Saturday en route to collecting a convincing 31-15 rout of rival Seward. As a team, Homer held Seward scoreless for half of the game.

Bishop helped the Lady Mariners take complete control of the game in the first quarter. She pumped in six of her points in the first eight minutes and helped the HHS girls streak to a 10-0 advantage. Alexus Kregor and Jess Sonnen also added baskets in the opening stanza.

Seward managed to fight its way back in the second. The Lady Seahawks outscored Homer by a 10-8 clip in the frame and went into the half trailing by 10, at 18-10.

Alyssum Veldstra, Cora Parish and Richelle Biggs all netted points in the third and helped Homer stretch its lead to 24-15 heading into the fourth.

The Lady Mariners salted away the win with a 7-0 run in the final eight minutes. Shelly Johnson, Veldstra, Hannah Hatfield and Biggs all tallied points in the fourth.
