Basketball has returned to Kotzebue. And so have the wins.

The Kotzebue boys' and girls' basketball teams opened their 2017-18 seasons last week with succesful outings. The Lady Huskies split their first two games of the season while playing in the Grace Christian Classic.

Despite a solid outing from several starters, the Lady Huskies dropped their season opener, falling to Mt. Edgecumbe by a 59-53 margin on Dec. 14. They rebounded in grand fashion the following day by grinding out a 64-58 victory over the Aniak Halfbreeds.

The Huskies didn't fare as well as the girls' team in their opener. Kotzebue dropped a 75-32 decision to Grace Christian in the first round, and came out on the short end of a 69-25 clash in their second contest. They dropped their final game to Bartlett.

The Kotzebue teams will travel to Sitka on Jan. 12 to 13.
