Atz Kilcher and his children are going to put their time where their hearts are in a few days - near the homes.

The Kilchers will take a brief break from launching a holiday tour to stage a benefit for the Coila Homestead on Oct. 4 at the Homer Theater. The show, which will begin at 6 p.m., will serves as the unofficial kickoff to the family's upcoming holiday tour. Funds raised by the show will be donated to the homestead of longtime friend, William "John" Coila Jr. Coila passed away earlier this month.

"I'm very flattered they're going to do this," said Coila's daughter, Mahealani. "It was their idea as a way to honor my father. I think it is a beautiful thing the Kilchers want to do for our dad. I think it says a lot about the kind of people they are to do this. They're in the middle of launching a tour but they decided they wanted to do this for him."

Coila settled at the head of Kachemak Bay in the early 1980s and quickly became friends with the Kilchers.

Among the Kilchers to perform during the benefit will be Atz, Atz Lee, Niko and Jewel.
