Whalers falter 0-46 to North Pole

The North Pole Patriots scored 21 points in the first 12 minutes of play on Saturday and cruised to a 46-0 victory over the Barrow Whalers in non-conference football action on Saturday.
With the win, North Pole improved to 4-0 for the season. The Whalers slipped to 1-2 heading into this weekend's Aurora Conference opener against Monroe Catholic.
The Patriots got off to a quick start against Barrow. North Pole scored three times in the opening frame and never looked back.
Running back C.J. Fontana ignited the NPHS run by scoring on an 8-yard run early in the first. He added another score minutes later by catching an 11-yard touchdown pass that upped the lead to 14-0.
The Patriots tacked on their third TD of the period late in the frame via a 65-yard interception return.
North Pole added two more touchdowns in the second and stretched their lead to 35-0 at the half.
The Patriots tacked on additional TDs in the third and fourth quarters.
Despite the loss, the Whalers picked up solid play from receivers Sione Tuafua and Travis Adams. Tuafua led all Whalers with six receptions for 68 yards. Adams caught five passes for 36.
Quarterback Anthony Freuan completed 13 of his 21 passes for 110 yards.
The Whalers will face Monoe Catholic on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. in Fairbanks.
