Eve Negovanna and Tina Conwell proved a major point this past weekend at the 2017 Alaska USA Women's State Wrestling Championships. They are indeed among the best female wrestlers in the state. Negovanna and Conwell both locked up silver medals in front of large crowds in the Menard Sports Complex in Wasilla by finishing second in their respective weight classifications.

A standout at Barrow, Negovanna starred in the women's 137-pound division.

En route to garnering a second-place finish, she secured a berth in the 137-pound finals with an impressive 8-5 victory over Chugach's Sydney Kelley.

In the finals, Negovanna suffered a tough 6-2 setback to eventual champion Zoe Adkins.

Negovanna also pocketed a third-place finish in the Folkstyle tournament.

Conwell, a standout at Kotzebue High School, was equally impressive in the Women's 200-pound classification. She went 1-1 in the tournament, including a semifinal victory over Alaska Battle Cats' Ashton Tisenga.

In the championship match, she suffered a loss to Sterling Magnuson.
