Morry helps lead Gold to win
Kristen Morry is no stranger to the big-time stage. As a freshman, she advanced to the Class 1A State Basketball Championships with the Galena Hawks. A few years later, she returned home and helped lead the Anaktuvuk Pass girls to a trip to the state tournament.
On Saturday afternoon, Morry helped lead another team to the top - the Gold All-Stars.
Morry pushed in 13 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked a shot en route to helping guide the Gold All-Stars to an easy 96-64 victory over the Blue in the 2017 Class 1A/2A Senior All-Star Game at Grace Christian High School.
Although overshadowed by Class 1A Player of the Year Kiah Charlie, Morry turned in a stellar effort for the Gold. She hit on five of her nine shots from the floor, including both of her three-point attempts.
Charlie finished as the game's leading scorer by throwing in 27 points.
King Cove's McKenna Gould and Bristol Bay's Anna Hansen also played well for the Gold. Gould pumped in six points in the win. Hansen scored four points and had six rebounds.
Despite the loss, the Blue All-Stars benefitted from outstanding performances from several northwest Arctic standouts. Alak's Rhiannon Nanalook knocked down three three-point shots and poured in 13 points. She also had four rebounds and a blocked shot.
Buckland's Sarah Washington and Point Hope's Dolly Hank also played well in the contest.
In the boys' 1A/2A all-star game, the Blue All-Stars rode a 30-point, 14 rebound performance from Petersburg's Stewart Conn to a 103-94 overtime victory.
The Blue All-Stars outscored their opponent by a 12-3 margin in the OT frame to break open a 91-91 deadlock and cement the win.
Conn came up just three assists shy of recording a triple-double in the affair.
