Barrow, Kotzebue send stars to AABC games
Barrow High School senior Rose Mongoyak has had a pretty impressive high school career. In her four years as a member of the Lady Whalers' machine, the 6-foot forward has won four Western Conference championships, a Class 3A state championship and was a recipient of the Class 3A Player of the Year honors.
Last week, the BHS standout garnered another huge honor - an all-star invitation.
Mongoyak was among five Western Conference players selected to participate in the Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches' 2017 Senior All-Star Games. The Class 1A/2A and Class 3A/4A showdowns will be played on April 15 in Anchorage.
Mongoyak and teammate Alaina Wolgemuth will highlight the 3A's roster. The two helped lead Barrow to a third-place finish this season.
The girls' Class 3A/4A all-star showdown will be played at 6 p.m. at Grace Christian High School.
Trevor Thomas and Kotzebue sensation Bish Gallahorn will headline the boys' 3A game. One of the state's top three-point threats, Thomas helped spur the Whalers to a third-place finish this season.
Gallahorn was one of the top offensive players this season for the Huskies.
Also named to the all-star showdown was Bethel Regional High School's Jayvin Williams.
The boys' 3A/4A all-star game will be played at 7:45 p.m.
The northern half of the state will also be well represented in the Class 1A/2A all-star game as four small-school stars were named to the roster, including Alak's Molly Nayakik and Buckland's Sarah Washington.
Also selected to the Class 1A roster were Anaktuvuk Pass standout Kristen Morry and Point Hope's Dolly Hank.
