GCI to broadcast state championship games
Residents of rural Alaska unable to make it to Anchorage for the Class 1A/2A and 3A/4A state basketball tournaments won't have to miss a dribble of their team's attempts to capture a state championship, thanks to GCI. The Alaska telecommunications giant announced last week that it would be broadcasting each of the eight state championship games on Channel 907.
"GCI is committed to expanding local sports coverage on Channel 907 as well as programming that Alaskans care about," said Paul Landes?Senior Vice President of Consumer Services?"We're thrilled to broadcast high school basketball championships on Channel 907, providing a way for friends, family and fans statewide to watch our high school athletes compete and to help cheer them on."
GCI's coverage will begin on March 18 when it airs the 2017 Class 1A boys' and girls' state title games, starting at 2 p.m. The Class 2A state games will also be shown, starting at 6:30 p.m.
The Class 1A/2A state tournament gets under way on March 15 at the Alaska Airlines Center.
GCI will also air the championship games for the Class 3A and Class 4A divisions. The Class 3A girls' and boys' finals will be played at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on March 25, respectively. The 4A games will be shown at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
