Fruean scores 45 en route to power Whalers to key wins
Make no mistake about it, no one is saying Anthony Fruean is the next Kamaka Hepa for the Barrow High School Whalers. Mainly because the freshman sensation is doing pretty well at being the first Anthony Fruean.
Fruean etched his name into Barrow High School lore on Friday when he ignited a two-game sweep of rival Kotzebue with a Herculean act. He pumped in a career-high mark in scoring in the opener of the two-game series and never let the Whalers look back.
Fruean was a one-man scoring machine in Friday's home game against Kotzebue. He threw in 45 points and helped guide the Whalers to an 89-53 victory.
After opening the game with a 19-11 run, Fruean and the BHS offense all but iced the opener with a 45-29 run over the ensuing two quarters. Barrow held a 64-30 lead at the start of the fourth quarter.
Travis Adams and Trevor Thomas also reached double figures in the win, netting 19 and 15 points, respectively.
Fruean, Royhenry Snow and Adams all scored into double figures on Saturday and helped the Whalers finish off the sweep with a 76-49 decision.
Fruean finished the game with 18 points. Snow and Adams chalked up 17 and 12, respectively.
