Kivgiq kicks off in Utqiagvik this Thursday morning.

The messenger feast, held typically every other year in the hub community, will bring together thousands of residents from across the North Slope, Northwest Arctic, and beyond.

On the schedule for the three-day event are a series of dances and songs, remembrances of Elders who have passed, the messengers' race, and the lighting of the seal oil lamp.

The event is hosted by the North Slope Borough. More information can be found on their website.
