Opening on BUECI board after director's death
There is an opening on the Barrow Utilities and Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BUECI) board of directors that it hopes to fill by the end of this month.
BUECI is a member-owned utility that handles electric, natural gas, and potable and non-potable water production and distribution, along with wastewater collection and treatment for Barrow.
"The vacancy occurred when Director Doreen Agheak passed away on Aug. 7, 2016," the company wrote in an announcement.
The board is required to appoint someone to fill her seat through the end of her term in April 2018. Candidates may submit a letter of interest to the board that includes their qualifications and may also send in a resume, if they so chose.
To serve on the BUECI board, directors must be a resident of Barrow, be a member of the cooperative, and must not be an employee of the cooperative.
"The utility's board of directors sets policy for the utility, recommends bylaw changes to the membership, and reviews financial and operational reports," the announcement stated. "Specifically, the board approves annual budgets, sets rates and approves capital purchases. The board also directs a general manager who is responsible for day-to-day operation of the utility."
The board meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. and special meetings and workshops are held as needed.
Current members of the board include President Price E. Brower, Vice President Roy M. Nageak Sr., Secretary and Treasurer Don A. Nungasak, Frederick F. Brower, Lewis E. Brower, Forrest "Deano" Olemaun, Richard Ungarook Sr., and Tina Wolgemuth.
The deadline to submit an application is 5 p.m. on Sept. 22. Letters of interest may be delivered in person to ATTN: BUECI Board of Directors, 1295 Agvik Street, Barrow, AK 99723, or emailed to email@example.com.
