Fall is health fair time on the North Slope. On alternating years with the Healthy Living Summit, the Department of Health and Social Services holds fairs in the villages around the borough from August through November.

The first fair was held in Barrow on Aug. 20, followed by Point Hope on Sept. 8 and Point Lay on Sept. 9.

Fairs coming up this week are in Kaktovik on Sept. 15 and Anaktuvuk Pass on Sept. 16.

Later in the month, there will be fairs in Atqasuk on Sept. 22 and Wainwright on Sept. 23.

The final health fair of the season will be in Nuiqsut on Nov. 10.

Health fairs provide information on health services to local residents along with a variety of activities and offerings on culturally-appropriate health care for the region.
