Brower sees bright Ilisagvik future

As Ilisagvik's Pearl Brower returned from maternity leave this March, she came back to two jobs instead of one.
While remaining under her official role as Dean of Students and Institutional Development, she also took on the responsibilities of Interim President.
The board will be making a decision about the permanence of that currently-temporary position in June. But the few months she has spent filling the presidential shoes, Brower said, have been exciting ones.
"It's actually been an incredible, amazing and enlightening experience," Brower said, adding that helping the college pursue its latest expansions and endeavors has been rewarding.
"I love the college. I completely agree with what we're doing here and support what we're doing. I think that kind of give me the drive and the passion to do what I'm doing."
Brower has been with the college for five years, and in that time has filled a plethora of positions, she said. This one, though, has been the most complex.
"There's a lot of responsibility, but I'm very excited and looking forward to the future."
Brower studied Alaska Native and Rural Development as well as Anthropology and Alaska Native Studies at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
