Arctic Circle Spring Festival kicks off in Kotzebue today

Good morning, today is the beginning of the Arctic Circle Spring Festival! Attached you will find an updated schedule [http:/pdf/2011_spring_festival_schedule_of_events.pdf]with the addition of the sign-ups for the Gunnar 120 Women's Snowmachine Race and the Girls Basketball Fundraiser. Also attached are the fliers for the Dessert Contests [http:/pdf/super_cookie_contest_pdf.pdf], including the cupcake contest [http:/pdf/cupcake_contest.pdf], as well as the City of Noorvik's weekend festivities [http:/pdf/2011_ssmsdr_and_derek_sheldon_schedule_of_events.-1.pdf].

Today's events of the Arctic Circle Spring Festival include:

Craft Tables available at "Headquarters" over at the Nullagvik Hotel from 4pm - 6pm.

Headquarters will be set up at the Nullagvik Hotel Banquet Room where NANA Regional Corporation will have Coffee and Tea available for you to warm up and relax!

Blocks of Snow available for anyone who's interested in making a Snow Sculpture. These will be located in front of the Nullagvik Hotel.

4:00 p.m. Wells Fargo will host a traditional Tea Making Contest where contestants will use kindling to make a fire, pour (clean) snow into coffee cans to heat water and make tea, the old fashioned way! The first person to have a cup of tea wins. Wood, Tea and coffee cans will be provided.

4:00 p.m. The "Clothesline Run Races" for kids will take place, where kids of all ages will race to a clothesline lined with dollar bills to pluck off and keep!

6:00 p.m. a "Super Cookie" contest will take place (attached flyer) at the JNES Cafeteria. Simply make a "cookie pizza" and decorate it as you see fit. Prizes will be awarded to the best SUPER COOKIE out there. Some prizes include homemade kitchen items and atikluk aprons. These cookies will serve as the dessert for the dinner.

6:00 p.m. Kiktagruk Inupait Corporation will host a community shiifish dinner at the JNES cafeteria. This will be your chance to "meet the mushers" of the Kobuk 440 Sled Dog race. We are still looking for people to bake shiifish, as well as make side dishes!

7:00 p.m. at the JNES Cafeteria the Kobuk 440 Organization will be having the bib drawings for the 440 sled dog race.
