Barrow boys sweep GalenaPublished on March 4th, 2010 By VAN WILLIAMS Victor Unutoa is playing like a man among boys. The Barrow boys basketball player keyed a weekend sweep of Galena with solid scoring and remarkable rebounding, helping the Whalers extend their winning streak to seven. Unutoa, a 6-foot-1 forward, grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds in an 83-72 win Saturday night. He added nine points. The previous night, Unutoa delivered nine points and 14 rebounds in an 80-77 win. Barrow improved to 20-2 overall and will carry that seven-game winning streak into the Western Conference Tournament this week in Unalaska. It'll be there that the Whalers have to finish first or second in the conference tournament to punch their ticket to the ASAA Class 3A state tournament in Anchorage. Barrow's Tyler Adams and Albert Gerke continued their impressive play, helping the Whalers fire on all cylinders. Adams scored 24 and 17 while Gerke pumped in 17 and 18 last weekend. The Barrow and Galena girls split their weekend series. Van Williams can be reached at vwilliams@alaskanewspapers.com |
